A fully automated solid waste collection system was implemented in November 1999, offering rollout containers for weekly curbside service to residential customers. Additionally, the town conducts monthly cleanup days (on the first Tuesday of each month) for bulky rubbish and white goods, along with regular weekly brush collection. Approximately 4,500 tons of refuse are collected annually. In addition to refuse, approximately 5,000 cubic yards of leaves are collected and transported to a disposal facility.

All residential and light commercial basic solid waste will be collected weekly and are required by ordinance to participate in this program.  Residents may purchase up to two trash containers and light commercial businesses may purchase up to three trash containers.  To make a purchase please contact the Treasurer’s department at (276) 525-1464.  The cost to purchase a container is $60.00 each.

The solid waste billing is a monthly charge of $30.00 plus a fee for any additional containers.    The monthly billing is due on the 6th of each month. Brush will be picked up weekly, the same day as your solid waste pick up day.

This service is for residential only, if a commercial solid waste business has brush present, they may incur a brush collection fee.  Bulky rubbish collections service is exclusively offered to locations receiving residential collection. Collection will be on the first Tuesday of the month.   Apartment complexes and mobile home parks will incur a charge if bulky rubbish is out for collection.
