Notice – Public Information Meeting – Outdoor Refreshment Area – October 21, 2021

The Town of Abingdon will hold a public information meeting on Thursday, October 21, from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm at Town Hall, on a proposed Designated Outdoor Refreshment Area. Citizens will have the opportunity to obtain information and provide feedback to Town officials. Should you wish to make comments on the proposal, the Town encourages you to complete a comment form, which will be available at the meeting and posted on our website. The comment forms will be available through November 12.

ITB – Stair Replacement to the Pedestrian Bridge Over Norfolk-Southern Railway – October 21, 2021

The Town of Abingdon is currently accepting sealed bid solicitations from qualified contractors to reconstruct stairs to the deck of the pedestrian bridge over the Norfolk-Southern Railway located at the intersection of Remsburg Drive and Wall Street.

Board and Commission Vacancies

Infrastructure Advisory Committee:
The Infrastructure Advisory Committee is seeking a member to fill a vacancy. The Infrastructure Advisory Committee shall consider matters regarding the Town’s infrastructure, including but not limited to streets, sidewalks, storm sewer system, etc. The committee meets the second Thursday monthly in the Arthur Campbell Room, Town Municipal Building, 133 West Main Street. Interested persons should complete the Board and Commission application found here, and return the application to Kim Kingsley, kkingsley@abingdon-va.gov by 5:00 pm on Monday, October 25, 2021. Council will consider the applications at the November 1, 2021 Council meeting.

Planning Commission:
Planning Commission is seeking a member to fill a vacancy. The committee meets the 4th Monday of each month at 5:30 pm in the Council Chambers at the Town municipal building, 133 West Main Street. Interested persons will be subject to completion of a statement of economic interest form and may not miss more than three (3) meetings during a 12-month period of service. Interested persons should complete the Board and Commission application found here, and return the application to Kim Kingsley, kkingsley@abingdon-va.gov by 5:00 pm on Monday, October 25, 2021. Council will consider the applications at the November 2021 Council meeting.

Board of Zoning Appeals:
Board of Zoning Appeals is seeking a member to fill an expired term. The board meets the 2nd Tuesday of each month at 6:00 pm in the Town municipal building, 133 West Main Street. Interested persons are subject to completion of a statement of Disclosure of Real Estate Holdings and may not miss more than three (3) meetings during a 12-month period of service. Interested persons should complete the Board and Commission application found here, and return the application to Kim Kingsley, kkingsley@abingdon-va.gov by 5:00 pm on Friday, August 27, 2021. Council will consider the applications at their regular September, 2021 Council meeting.
