Board and Commission Vacancies

Board of Zoning Appeals:
Board of Zoning Appeals is seeking a member to fill an expired term. The board meets the 2nd Tuesday of each month at 6:00 pm in the Town municipal building, 133 West Main Street. Interested persons are subject to completion of a statement of Disclosure of Real Estate Holdings and may not miss more than three (3) meetings during a 12-month period of service. Interested persons should complete the Board and Commission application found here, and return the application to Kim Kingsley, kkingsley@abingdon-va.gov by 5:00 pm on Friday, August 27, 2021. Council will consider the applications at their regular September, 2021 Council meeting.

Historic Preservation Review Board:
Historic Preservation Review Board is seeking a member to fill an expired term. It is preferred that the applicant be a resident, a qualified voter and demonstrate an interest, competence or knowledge in historic preservation. The Board meets the first Wednesday each month at 5:15 pm in the Town municipal building, 133 West Main Street. Interested persons are required to attend at least one informational or education meeting per year, approved by the state department of historic resources as pertaining to the work and function of the Board. Interested persons should complete the Board and Commission application found here, and return the application to Kim Kingsley, kkingsley@abingdon-va.gov by 5:00 pm on Friday, August 27, 2021. Council will consider the applications at their regular September 2021 meeting.

Sinking Spring Cemetery Committee:
Sinking Spring Cemetery Committee is seeking a member to fill an open position. The committee meets twice a year or on an as needed basis. Interested persons should complete the Board and Commission application found here, and return application to Kim Kingsley, Clerk, kkingsley@abingdon-va.gov by 5:00 p.m. on Monday, August 30, 2021. Council will consider the applications at the September 2021 Council meeting.

Virginia Highlands Small Business Incubator:
Virginia Highlands Small Business Incubator is seeking member(s) to fill expired term. Interested persons are subject to completion of a statement of economic interest form and may not miss more than three (3) meetings during a 12-month period of service. Interested persons should complete the Board and Commission application found here, and return the application to Kim Kingsley, kkingsley@abingdon-va.gov by 5:00 p.m. on Monday, July 26, 2021. Council will consider the applications at their regular August 2021 Council meeting.

Abingdon Town Wide Yard Sale – August 21, 2021

The Town of Abingdon will host a Town-Wide Yard Sale on Saturday, August 21, 2021, from 7:00 am to 2:00 pm. Residents and business owners are encouraged to sell goods in a yard sale type setting on private property only.

The Town’s participation will be limited to waiving permit fees and coordinating a list of participating residents for marketing purposes ONLY via the town website and “Abingdon’s Town Wide Yard Sale” Facebook event.

To participate and be included in the marketing, you must complete a permit in person, or print online here, and return to the Town Municipal Building and/or emailing tmontgomery@abingdon-va.gov by 5:00 pm Wednesday, August 4, 2021.

We expect an increase in vehicle and pedestrian traffic for this event, please plan accordingly, and be alert for pedestrians.
