Notice – Real Estate Tax Due Date

Notice is hereby given that Real Estate Taxes for the second half of 2021 are due and payable on or before Saturday, November 20, 2021 pursuant to Abingdon, Virginia Code of Ordinances, §66-1(2).   Payments that are mailed must be postmarked by midnight of November 22, 2021 by the United States Postal Service only. Postmarks from private mailing machines are no longer acceptable.  On November 23, 2021, a penalty and interest must be charged in accordance with the Code of Virginia, §§58.1-3915, 58.1-3916, 58.1-3918 and Abingdon, Virginia Code of Ordinances, §66-2.

The Town makes every effort to see that you receive your real estate tax bill(s); however, Code of Virginia §58.1-3911 provides that the property owner is responsible for payments (plus any penalties and interest) even if you did not receive your bill.   Please contact the Finance Department immediately at 276-525-1464, if you did not receive your bill or if you have any indication that your tax bill may have been misdirected.

Notice is hereby given that 2021 Personal Property Tax is due and payable on or before Saturday, November 20, 2021 pursuant to Abingdon, Virginia Code of Ordinances, §66-1(1).   Payments that are mailed must be postmarked by midnight of November 22, 2021 by the United States Postal Service only. Postmarks from private mailing machines are no longer acceptable.  On November 23, 2021, a penalty and interest must be charged in accordance with the Code of Virginia, §§58.1-2681, 58.1-3916 and 58.1-3918 and Abingdon, Virginia Code of Ordinances, §66-2.

Notice of Vacancy – Tourism Advisory Committee

The Tourism Advisory Committee has positions available on their committee for a
representative of B&B establishment; hotel/motel; and retail or downtown business owner.

Interested persons should complete the Board and Commission application found at
www.abingdon-va.gov under forms and downloads and return the application to Kim Kingsley,
kkingsley@abingdon-va.gov by 5:00 pm on Monday, November 29, 2021.

Council will consider the applications at their regular December 2021 Council meeting.

Notice of Vacancy – Planning Commission

Planning Commission is seeking a member to fill a vacancy. The committee meets the
4th Monday of each month at 5:30 pm in the Council Chambers at the Town municipal building,
133 West Main Street. Interested persons will be subject to completion of a statement of economic
interest form and may not miss more than three (3) meetings during a 12-month period of service.

Kingsley, kkingsley@abingdon-va.gov by 5:00 p.m. on Monday, November 29, 2021.
